1598- अमेरिका में पहली बार थियेटर का आयोजन


1789- जॉर्ज वॉशिंगटन प्रथम सर्वसम्मति से अमेरिका के पहले राष्ट्रपति चुने गए।


1870- भारतीय सिनेमा के पितामह कहे जाने वाले धुंडिराज गोविंद फाल्के उर्फ दादा साहब फाल्के का जन्म।


1639- दिल्ली में लाल किले की नींव रखी गयी।


1682- ईसवी को रूस में पीटर अग्रेट ने 10 वर्ष की आयु में शासन संभाला। वे रोमानोफ़ वंश के तीसरेज़ार शासक थयूडर के भाई थे। शासन संभालने के पश्चात उनकी बहन ने, जो शासन की उत्तराधिकारी थीं पीटर को मॉस्को के निकट एक गांव भेजकर स्वंय सत्ता हथिया ली। कुछ समय बाद पीटर ने विशाल सेना तैयार की और अपनी बहन के मुकाबले में युद्ध के लिए डट गये। इस युद्ध में पीटर को विजय प्राप्त हुई और वे दोबारा रुस के शासक बन गये। इसके बाद से उन्होंने पूरी गम्भीरता के साथ देश की आंतरिक स्थिति को बेहतर बनाने के लिए प्रयास किया।


1747- ईसवी को फ़्रांस की 90 हज़ार की सेना ने हालैंड पर आक्रमण आरंभ किया। इस सेना ने बहुत तेज़ी से आगे बढ़ते हुए हालैंड में प्रवेश किया। इस युद्ध में ब्रिटेन और ऑस्ट्रिया, हालैंड की सहायता कर रहे थे किंतु विजय फ़्रांस की हुई और हालैंड के कमज़ोर होने की प्रक्रिया, जो १७वीं शताब्दी के अंत से आरम्भ हुई थी, और भी तेज़ तथा व्यापक हो गयी।


1939- नेताजी सुभाषचंद्र बोस ने कांग्रेस से इस्तीफा दिया।


1945- ईसवी को द्वितीय विश्व युद्ध के अंतिम दिनों में घटक सेनाओं को एक और बड़ी पराजय का सामना हुआ। इटली में जर्मनी की रक्षा पंक्ति के टूट जाने के बाद संयुक्त सेंनाओं ने एक व्यापक आक्रमण करके इटली पर अधिकार कर लिया। इटली, जहॉ मसोलीनी का राज था, जर्मनी का घटक था। इटली में संयुक्त सेना की सफलता के पश्चात इस देश में तैनात जर्मन सैनिकों ने संयुक्त सेना के समक्ष हथियार डाल दिये।



1859- ईसवी को स्वेज़ नहर की खुदाई आरंभ हुई। दस वर्ष के निर्माण के बाद 17 नवम्बर वर्ष 1869 ईसवी को स्वेज़ नहर का उद्घाटन हुआ। स्वेज़ नहर की लंबाई 193 किलोमीटर और कम से कम चौड़ाई 235 फ़ुट और अधिक से अधिक चौड़ाई 421 फ़ुट है जबकि नहर की तह में यह चौड़ाई कम से कम 151 फ़ुट और अधिक से अधिक 337 फ़ुट है। नहर की गहराई कम से कम 37 फ़ुट और अधिक से अधिक 42 फ़ुट है। इस नहर के निर्माण से यूरोप और एशिया के मध्य एक नया जलमार्ग अस्तित्व में आ गया और भूमध्य सागर लाल सागर से मिल गया जिससे व्यापार में बहुत अधिक विकास हुआ।


1867- जापान की राजधानी टोक्यो में विदेशी व्यापार की अनुमति दी गई।


1905- दक्षिण अफ्रीका में श्वेतों को मताधिकार मिला।
